Christine, thanks for re-posting this blog article. Dogs aren't the only companions that have noise phobias -- so do cats! Hairdryers, vacuum cleaners, even sudden, too loud TV commercials, and my nephew's early morning crying when he was an infant have caused Bastet to dive & hide over the years - sometimes for hours at a time. She has gotten better but every once in a while, she'll spaz! The "quiet room" worked wonders for her to the point that she'll tolerate a low-volume vacuum cleaner while she's in her favorite chair. Thanks again! Mary

Thank you so much for this information. Last 4th of July my dog was an absolute basket case over the fireworks. This year when I called my vet to discuss medication options they recommended "ace" and since I was a follower of your blog and had read your article I knew that "ace" was the wrong way to go. This information was "seconded" by a dog trainer that I know as well as by many other articles that I've found after first discovering the information thru your blog. My dog thanks you!!!!!

Terrific post, and thank you! I do have one quibble, which is that melatonin, though unproven, is not homeopathic but an actual body hormone with a plausible physical mechanism of action. Homeopathic remedies are, of course, just water.

Terrific, informative info. Thank you so much. The music of Through a Dog's Ear was purposely first clinically tested around the 4th of July to test dogs with sound phobias. The slowed down, simplified, lowered classical music has been clinically demonstrated to calm the canine nervous system. Last 4th of July was the first time that our first CD - Music to Calm your Canine Companion, Vol. 1 - was on the market. We heard from a woman who said this: "It was the first 4th of July that I didn’t need to drug my dog, thanks to the music of Through a Dog’s Ear. On previous years, he had jumped out of windows. It was like Dog Ambien! Dambien!” Read the full story..
