Louisa Beal, DVM is a veterinarian with a passion for helping owners solve behavior problems with their pets. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University in 1984.
Louisa’s deep respect for all animals from an early age led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Her keen interest in animal behavior drove her to complete behavior externships with three of the top animal behaviorists in the nation, at University of Pennsylvania Behavior Clinic with Victoria Voith, Animal Behavior Consultants with Peter Borchelt, and Cornell University Behavior Clinic with Katherine Houpt. At that time, there was no board certification for veterinary behavior.
Louisa practiced general medicine and behavior as owner of Brown’s Point Veterinary Clinic for ten years before selling the practice to found Veterinary Behavior Consultations in 1996. She was an instructor in the Veterinary Assistant Program at Renton Technical College for more than ten years.
Louisa is not just an expert in veterinary behavior and medication, but also an accomplished dog trainer. She clicker trained and competed in Obedience and Canine Musical Freestyle with her dogs Loki and Paxil. Both dogs earned the Companion Dog (CD) title for Obedience.
Louisa has retired from seeing clients, and continues to provides behavior and behavioral medicine support to veterinarians throughout the Puget Sound. She confers with Companion Animal Solutions client’s veterinarians on the use of behavioral medication. She is a sought after speaker on the topic of veterinary behavior, and low-stress and force-free veterinary practice.
